Thompson River 2014

August 31, 2014
Just when I thought Hawaii was going to be the pinnacle of my summer, I was able to take a  quick trip up to the Thompson River. The Thompson River is my favorite river on the planet to fish. There is no better way to spend a hot summer day than floating and fishing for Rainbows on the Thompson.
A couple days after returning from Hawaii, we headed up to my favorite place to stay on the Thompson - The Rock and River Rustic Retreat. <> Be sure to check out their website for all the information on what they offer.
I started my first day floating from Savona to the resort. When I first put in, I was overwhelmed with the amount of Sockeye in the river. I was a little disheartened as when there are numerous salmon in the river, the trout fishing can be challenging.
Taking in the warm summer sun, I enjoyed the float and stopped to fish at several runs. Unfortunately these runs were plump full of Sockeye and as such no trout for me. I continued on to a run I fished last year that I had great success on. Upon arrival I noticed a caddis hatch coming off. I couldn't help but feel my smile grow. I put on my lucky bug that produced very well last year and whammo, fish on. I continued to fish this extremely long run for the next 3 1/2 hours. During this time I managed to land over 20 fish with many other hooked. It was a great finish to a day on my favorite river.

The second day I planned on floating from the resort to Juniper beach but was just too tired so I fished around the resort for a few hours. I cannot help but marvel in the scenery of this area.

The owner Tammy has a little piece of heaven on earth. Tammy's warm and welcoming demeanor is what keeps me coming back year after year. The fact her retreat is located on the river doesn't hurt either. Whether you are RVing, need a B&B, rent a cabin or pitch a tent, Tammy can hook you up. If you are on the lookout for an amazing place to stay where you feel you are not going to a resort but rather to spend a few days with family, this is the place to go.

Here are a couple pics from the trip.

Hawaii 2014

August 31, 2014
Been a while since I have blogged.
I had the pleasure of spending 10 days in sunny Hawaii this August with my Daughter Madison. The purpose of the trip was my daughter's soccer tournament, however, there is always time for a fishing trip. In anticipation of this trip I booked a trip with Louie the Fish Guide Service.
Our guide picked us up from our Hotel at 6:30 am and we were on our way to the flats. The plan was for me to fly fish in the morning and for my daughter to try spin fishing for Bo...

Rod Tube Holders

March 3, 2014
Over the years I have often seen many rod stands or holders. Why have there never been tube stands or racks? While it is great to have a beautiful stand or rack to display your tools of the trade but where do all those tubes go? Well if you are like me, you just lean them up in a corner of a closet ony to trip over them or watch them fall any time you go into said closet.
In addition, the rod tubes nowadays are not only functional but also pleasing to the eyes. It would be a shame to let this ...
